“It was great trying to let them imagine how our country looks like, what our life is about. It’s special to be able to communicate with other young people in different countries. I learnt a lot about other cultures.”
(Ndumiso Ngubane, student in South Africa)
„This project is a highly competent and successful example of media education within the context of international and intercultural exchange.”

EinBlick (InSight) was a trilateral, intercontinental video exchange developed with the Goethe-Institut as part of the global PASCH school network. It connected students learning German through film, enabling them to tell stories, exchange perspectives, and build intercultural understanding.
From 2012 onwards, EinBlick brought together more than 350 students and their teachers from 17 countries spanning Africa, Asia, Europe, Oceania, and Latin America.
Through their films, participants explored everyday similarities and differences, shared perspectives on cultural and religious diversity, and engaged in dialogue on issues such as political systems, freedom, discrimination, equality, health, and environmental challenges.
The project’s creative approach was widely recognised. In 2015, EinBlick received the Dieter Baacke Prize for outstanding media education from the Society for Media Education and Communication Culture and the German Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth. It was also featured in the book Diversity in Film and TV, edited by Ricart Brede and Helmes at Europa-University Flensburg.¹
At Glocal Collective, we design and lead film and media projects that bridge divides across cultures, identities, and generations. For us, film is more than a medium, it's a tool for listening, expression, and connection.
Our exchange-based projects foster empathy and understanding, laying the groundwork for inclusion, integration, and the celebration of diversity.
Rooted in Participatory Video methods, our workshops build skills in storytelling, research, critical thinking, and group collaboration, infusing the learning process with creativity, joy, and agency.
Participants work in small teams to research, script, interview, and produce their own short films. In-person workshops use professional film, sound, and editing equipment provided by Glocal Collective, while online sessions focus on smartphone filmmaking.
Each project culminates in a celebratory screening, where participants premiere their films to an audience, sparking meaningful dialogue and reflection.

In hands-on training sessions, educators explore participatory video as a powerful teaching tool. By stepping into the role of their students, they create their own short films, engaging with both film theory and practice. These sessions offer not only technical skills but also practical strategies for integrating film-based activities into subject-specific learning.¹

Through video letters, they shared personal stories on themes like Me/You, Home/The World, and Future/Now, offering intimate insights into each other’s lives while learning the art of filmmaking in German.¹
«When I film, I have time to think about myself and how I see the world around me. I think that is how art helps people.»
